Business continuity vs disaster recovery
Cloudera operates robust business continuity and disaster recovery programs to ensure organizational resilience and to protect critical operations.
Our business continuity program allows us to keep our business running when a disruption occurs. The essential business functions of our organization and the steps to restore business operations are defined in our business continuity plan (BCP) and are then tested on an annual basis. Any findings flow into Cloudera’s risk register which are reviewed on a quarterly basis for any changes and are presented to leadership.
Our disaster recovery (DR) program focuses on the restorations of our organization’s technology systems, including servers, networks, and data. Our DR plan defines how to restore the organization’s critical systems.
Cloudera’s business continuity and disaster recovery testing strategy
Cloudera follows a comprehensive and rigorous testing framework of all functional groups within the organization. Scenarios generated based on Cloudera’s most up-to-date risks, including:
Distributed malware attack
Ransomware with data exfiltration
AWS regional failure
Physical office environment outage
With multiple scenarios being simulated, this is a vital test to identify any potential vulnerabilities and validate the effectiveness of our continuity and response strategies.
This testing strategy process includes:
Business Impact Analysis (BIA): This process helps the organization determine the criticality of business processes and associated resources. It quantifies the impacts of disruptions on service delivery, recovery time objectives, and recovery point objectives. These recovery requirements are then used to develop the business continuity plan.
IT recovery strategy: The Cloudera Information Technology Recovery Strategy enables us to run systems at a planned alternate location or service provider in the event of a disaster through either a failover process or information system restoration.
Testing processes are audited annually to ensure accuracy and coverage.
